Since the birth of my first child I have felt deeply and passionately about birth and about every woman's right to give birth in dignity and power. My birth experiences were empowering and deeply transformative for me. In all the years since that time I have carried within me a deep trust in my body's amazing abilities, strengths, and wisdom. As a doula my goal is to help familiarize you with the natural process of birth; and to empower and encourage you so that you feel prepared and confident in your ability to meet the physical and emotional challenges of labor. Throughout labor and birth I am there to offer labor-coping techniques, guidance and support, a calm, reassuring presence, and to ensure that your baby is received in an atmosphere of awareness, sensitivity and love. It is an honor and a joy to assist women in birth, and I strive with an open heart to bring just what is needed to each occasion.

I have served over 500 families since 1992 as a postpartum doula and have been a lactation consultant since 2000. I taught CAPPA postpartum trainings for four years and continue to teach classes in newborn care and breastfeeding classes geared toward new moms, dads and grandmothers. I'm a published poet and author of articles relating to the postpartum time. I'm experienced with postpartum depression, multiples, preemies and LGTB couple support.  As a mother of two and a grandmother of three my goal as a postpartum doula is to show the new mother that her own instincts work. I teach her to trust herself to experiment intuitively and discover for herself how to read her baby's cues and invent her own personal solution to challenges without excess external information.

My passion is empowering women to know and trust their bodies. I see childbirth as a normal and healthy event with real emotional and physical challenges. It is a powerful time for women as they tune into their bodies and learn to trust in their strength, abilities, and intuition. As a doula, I support women during pregnancy by providing information and support so that they (and their partners) can trust the process of childbirth and gain confidence in their ability to meet the challenges of labor. During labor I use a variety of techniques to provide emotional support and physical comfort to the laboring woman as well as to partners and other family members who are present. Every woman deserves a beautiful birth. My job is to ensure that women have knowledge and confidence they need to have a safe and healthy birth and to create an experience that is meaningful to them (and their partners/family).

The incredibly powerful experience of childbirth has influenced my life from the moment I entered the world. One day in a fleeting moment I realized my life’s passion, that ‘I am a doula.’ I have been an advocate for women and children throughout my personal and professional career in various capacities, both locally and internationally. After the birth of my child, I became deeply fascinated in the natural health and well being of babies and mothers, and in traditional methods of childbirth. I am now an Herbal Practitioner, specializing in pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and infant care, and founded the baby and mama care company, Mama Rose’s Naturals. I fully appreciate and embrace the opportunity to provide support, information, and choices to mothers, encouraging them to listen to their own inner strength and wisdom. It is my honor to assist families throughout the unique and miraculous experience of greeting a new life into their world.

I am dedicated to enhancing whole family health through doula care, bodywork, and education.  I am a birth and postpartum doula, certified pregnancy massage therapist, childbirth educator, and mother.  As a doula, I have experience with birth at home, birth centers, and hospitals, as well as special circumstances such as waterbirth, twins, adoption, and alternative families.  I have been a doula and massage therapist, specializing in prenatal and postpartum massage, since 1998.  I am skilled in bodywork, acupressure, reflexology, hydrotherapy, acutonics, and the rebozo for labor facilitation and pre- and perinatal well-being.  I am dedicated to providing women-centered care that nurtures the mother through holistic healing arts and evidence-based practices.  My goal is for every woman to make informed, conscious choices regarding her birth and well-being, and for every parent and baby to be supported and nurtured through this incredible time.  I am the North American Director of Birth Arts International Doula Education Programs and the founder of the Birth Ecology Project, www.birthecology.org.

Marina Ormes - (541) 465-1269 - marina@efn.org

I first became interested in working as a doula 10 years ago while studying herbal medicine. I saw an opportunity to make a long-term positive impact by helping not only birthing women and their partners,  but the human beings they are birthing and the families they are becoming. As a non-denominational minister, I have experience offering counseling and support to clients who seek a non-religious or non-denominational connection to spirit. As a mother of two, I draw on my own experiences in addition to my years of experience as a doula. In all of my work, my purpose is to support my clients in their personal challenges; to help them discover more about themselves and their strengths. As your doula, I bring my training and experience as well as my warmth and ability to sense what is needed. I follow your lead for how best to support you, whether that is by offering you information, perspective, physical support, a listening ear, or simply being present as your process unfolds.
